Charlevoix is a lakeside town in Michigan, making it a top vacation destination, especially in the warmer summer months. Originally, the couple smoked food on a small Webber grill, and now serve made-from-scratch meals with meats smoked on a large smoker found in Athens. The locally owned restaurant was opened in 2014 by husband and wife team Julie and Ed Mann. They found one in Athens, GA and made the trip down to pick it up. They knew if they were going to really go for their dream, they needed a large smoker. Later they bought a small smoker and honed their skills. Julie started smoking food on her Webber grill. They opened for business on Memorial Weekend, May 23, 2014. Exactly two years later on December 31, 2013, they signed the papers to purchase the restaurant. In other words, she could work from home in Charlevoix! Ed arrived in September of 2011 with all of their things and critters and set up house. In 2010 Julie got a job with Ameriprise Financial in Minneapolis and they allowed her to work distant remote. They both knew they wanted to retire in Charlevoix. They slow cook their meat in their own smoker right outside the restaurant. If you like barbecue, you will love the slow-cooked meats offered at Smoke on the Water. Getting to immerse myself in the work culture, and create bonds with the customers was and is a rewarding experience. Smoke on the Water is less than a half-mile from Pointes North Inn and is located at 103 Park Avenue. Julie fell in love with Charlevoix the first time she visited with Ed in 2001. I have been working at Smoke On The Water for a few years now, and it has been an incredibly pleasant experience for me. Ed is from Charlevoix and Julie is from St. 2WEI - Smoke on the Water, Metalium - Smoke on the Water, Masterjam - SMOKE ON THE WATER. Her husband and co-owner, Ed Mann is a self-employed plumber, has joined Julie in her dream to open a restaurant.
